Drainage ditch de-vegetation keeps roads flowing and biodiversity supported
Drainage ditch de-vegetation keeps roads flowing and biodiversity supported
Published on 08 Nov 2022

Our team in Doncaster were tasked with clearing a very overgrown drainage ditch to enable a digger to dredge the ditch.

Drainage ditches are essential to keep the water running away from the roads, but they also have biodiversity importance, providing useful support for a variety of plants, insects, birds, small mammals and amphibians.

Before we started, the vegetation and trees were so dense that you couldn't even get in more than a couple of metres. To clear the vegetation, our team of six used, amongst other things, a robocut with flail and a tracked chipper. Overall, we cleared 300 metres in four days.

The digger operative was very impressed when he turned up on site to dredge the ditch.

It’s these seemingly invisible jobs that Chevron Green Services does day-in and day-out to keep our roadsides maintained.

Great job team.
