This month, one of our Ecology team was in the built environment, conducting an Ecological Assessment on a potential new development in Central London.
The ecological site visit was to gather data for an Ecological Report being produced in accordance with BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 version 6.0. In this report, we'd recommend any construction phase mitigations and biodiversity enhancements for the project.
With no outside or green spaces on site, the client had already proposed a green roof and some planting in the design. So our recommendations focused on adding in additional green walls and further planting to new terraced areas, as well as adding bat, bird and invertebrate boxes.
It's not just the site that is assessed, but also the surrounding area, e.g. what is access like to accommodate the works?
A nearby tree was flagged as being very close to the building works and would likely need trimming to allow for scaffolding during the work. As well as checking for a tree preservation order, the tree also had a bat roost feature, requiring a specific survey before anything further was done to the tree.
