Today we're introducing one of our Ecologists, Lily Clarke.
Lily graduated from the University of South Wales with a first-class honours degree in International Wildlife Biology in June 2022. She has been part of the Chevron Green Consultancy team since November 2022.
She has already worked on landscape surveys (assessing the quality of different landscapes, particularly along highways), grassland surveys (assessing the species within the grasslands and the quality of the site), ECoW (Ecological Clerk of Works) and scrub surveys (evaluating the presence and quality of shrubs existing along the TFL Northern line). When the season begins, she'll be working on many more ecological surveys, including surveys involving bats, badgers, greater crested newts, reptiles, wildflowers and dormice, plus many more.
Lily, along with the rest of our Ecologists, also gets involved in Biodiversity Net Gain surveys, which assess how projects leave the natural environment in a better state than before. And has been involved in several Environmental Impact Assessments, which allow us to determine the effects a particular development or project will have on the environment it's been proposed in.
CGC have projects all over England, but Lily has been working in the South and South East, including Oxford, Alton and London. Lily is a huge enthusiast for the natural world; she says, "I love that I can actively advocate for our natural environment, ensuring that we are giving back as much, or even more than we are taking. This job surrounds you with like-minded people who forever teach me new things and provide me with new and exciting perspectives on our natural world. It changes your outlook each day when you walk out the door as there may be something you have walked past every day (a tree, a badger sett, a bird’s nest, a type of bird etc.) and not really noticed but now I not only notice these things, I can tell you multiple facts about them! It really connects you with nature!"
