Ditch clearance on London-Herts border provides inspection access and ecological benefits
Ditch clearance provides inspection access and ecological benefits

The team in Area 5, which covers Greater London and the surrounding area, has been busy on a job on the A1(M) near South Mimms.

For 12 days, a team of four was working on ditch clearance, bramble clearance and removing a fallen tree. Our client had asked us to clear the area so they could inspect the drainage ditches.

At the start of the project, the ditches were very dry due to the long spell of dry summer weather but towards the end of the work, following some heavy rain, the ditches were holding water. As a result of the changes in weather conditions, we were regularly adapting not only our risk assessments, but also the methods used to clear the site.

On site we used a Sany SY26U excavator and forestry mulching head, a McConnell robocut with flail head and an XR8D tracked chipper.

Even a simple clearance job has some ecological benefits, for example clearing the brambles allows for grass and wildflowers to grow and flourish, whilst removing any diseased or dead trees ensures that the remaining stock stays as healthy as possible.

Do get in touch to find out how we can assist you in any potential clearance works you have coming up.
