Ice and snow, take it slow! Our teams work on the roads in all weathers and have helped many people who have found themselves in difficulties due to poor weather conditions.
As the UK continues it's cold snap, here are a few tips that we've put together to help you navigate the road in snow or ice.❄
- Plan your route. Check weather and travel conditions before heading out, especially if travelling a long distance.
- Check your tyres. Grip is seriously reduced in winter, so keep an eye on your tyres. Winter tyres are also an option, especially if you drive regularly.
- Keep your distance. Increase the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front. Avoid using cruise control. It's easy to lose control of your vehicle in bad weather if you rely on cruise control.
- Drive in high gears. In snowy or icy conditions, this will help you keep greater control of your vehicle. Gearing down also helps bring you to a safe stop.
- Carry a breakdown kit. Keep the essentials in your car including: blankets, winter boots, torch, fully charged phone, water, non-perishable snacks, de-icer and window scraper.
