🌿Whenever we're conducting a Biodiversity Net Gain assessment for a client, we always look at how we can enhance existing habitats or create new habitats within the site boundary of a project.
Not only is this better for the client, it's better for the community and better for the species already established on site.
Where it's not possible to achieve biodiversity net gain on site, we can look to bolster BNG by using additional off-site credits. This is always a backup option and not one we start off by recommending.
Developers can either make off-site biodiversity gains on their own land outside the development site or buy off-site biodiversity units on the market. The third way to achieve BNG is to buy statutory biodiversity credits from the government. This should only occur if the developer cannot achieve on-site or off-site BNG and should be the absolute last resort.
The government will use the revenue to invest in habitat creation in England. Developers can use a combination of all three, providing they follow the Biodiversity Gain hierarchy. We can guide you through the whole process, using our expertise and care for the environment.
