Making sure that the drainage systems are in place for construction projects is ever more important, especially as we face more extreme weather here in the UK.
As part of the redevelopment works on the A6 Paula Radcliffe Way in Bedford, our team in Fenstanton delivered a vegetation clearance and drainage scheme. To work within the client timeframe, we needed to act quickly, so within two weeks of the initial customer enquiry we'd produced a specification and bill of quantities.
We also worked quickly on the project, delivering the following within eight weeks of starting on site:
✅95,000m2 of grassland cutting
✅7,138 linear metres of concrete and grass channel ditch clearance
✅3,371m vacuum excavation
✅396m of grass channel ditch regrading
✅4,592 linear metres of vegetation clearance from the carriageway and footways
✅1,183 linear metres of clearance from fence lines
✅2,995m2 of vegetation clearance and silt removal from drainage basins
For this scheme we worked with our sister company Chevron Traffic Management to deliver the work efficiently for the client. We also had our Consultancy division on site to advise the client of the scheme's environmental requirements.
Their team completed an Environmental Alert Form, an Environmental Scoping Assessment and the relevant protected species surveys. As a result of the points identified, an Ecological Clerk of Works was present on site throughout the works to ensure no species were harmed.
We were delighted with the results. From start to finish it was a fantastic collaborative team effort. Everyone using their strength and expertise to deliver a high-quality scheme in an efficient manner.
