CGS support essential road maintenance by clearing balancing pond
Published on 30 Mar 2023

Our South East team was recently asked to visit and inspect a balancing pond that had been overflowing into neighbouring farmland.

Balancing ponds are important alongside busy roads; they collect excess water from the road and create open spaces for species-rich plants to enhance the environment. Keeping them clear and able to collect water is an essential part of road network maintenance.

The balancing pond, set off the A27 near Worthing, needed all the vegetation cleared around the pond's perimeter to allow for easy flow and access; we were also required to clear both the access gate and any assets, including the outflow and inflow pipes.

Our area 3 Contract Manager, Paul Arrowsmith, proposed a three-person team with tracked equipment for safety. It was a collaboration with our teams in area 5, who sent a two-person team with the equipment needed.

Our clients were delighted with the job done; they appreciated the level of detail we provided and the clear photos to allow for an appropriate course of action to be planned for moving forwards.
