CGS reestablish wildflower plots for pollinators on the M1
CGS reestablish wildflower plots for pollinators on the M1
Published on 23 May 2024

Last Autumn, our team in Doncaster worked on a grass cutting and collect job on the M1.

The purpose was to reestablish a wildflower plot which had not been maintained for some time. Our team of 3 got to work, over the course of a few hours, using a robo cutter with flail head and brush cutters.

They cut the grass and removed the bulk of the cuttings, therefore helping the seeds to spread, but also ensuring there isn't a thick layer on top of the area which prevents some wildflowers from growing back through.

With huge thanks to Tim Haskell from National Highways for the beautiful photos. You'll see these two plots have been a huge success. Maintaining wildflower plots successfully takes a bit of forward planning, but when done right, there are huge benefits for both nature and road users.
